Radon and Crawlspaces

Saturday, February 4th, 2023 by Evan Schmitt

Radon can come from many sources. From cracks, sump pumps, and even water.

Another large culprit for high radon levels are crawlspaces. Some are bare dirt and others have a poured slab.

If the area is bare dirt, we put a heavy duty vapor barrier on top to create a seal and then we put a suction point underneath the plastic.

If it has a poured concrete slab, we core drill through the block below it to gain access under the slab. From there we put a suction point to draw air from that area. We just completed an install in Painesville, OH where this was necessary due to the size of the crawlspace and the very elevated levels.

Addressing crawlspaces is extremely important for radon mitigation and can mean the difference in lowering high levels!
