Job Stories From North Ridgeville, OH
Tight Soil With Limited Footer Drains

This house had just recently been bought and the radon test came back at around 15 pCi/L. Whenever the levels are this high we are extremely diligent on system design and ensuring we have adequate airflow.

After doing our airflow tests we found that the house had tight soil for a foundation, most likely clay. However there was about a 20 foot section of the basement that had interior footer drains that led into the sump. Whenever a footer drain is installed, they put loose gravel around the pipe. By putting our suction point on top of it, we can know that we're getting great airflow along that whole section of the basement, and the more surface area we have communication in, the more likely we are to find pathways for air to move through the rest of the basement. We also sealed off the two sump pits to take every measure we could.

Our process worked great and the levels dropped to around 1 pCi/L!

Mitigation System Before Finishing Basement

This customer was getting ready to finish his basement and he wanted to have a radon system installed beforehand. His levels came back at about 3 times the action level. Before a remodel or major construction it's a good idea to get a radon system installed for one because it will be easier to install when the walls aren't in the way and it's the perfect timing because you'll be spending a lot more time in the basement.

The design of our system allowed us to hide the system away from view and in an the same area where the air conditioning is, as well as the vents for the furnace, allowing us to hide any noise that our system would make.

Our design worked great and the levels dropped well below 4 pCi/L!
